Our 2021 Coaching Team
Junior Football Coordinator - U6's to U11's
Murray (Muz) Pendlebury
Welcome to Season 2021
Hi! My name is Murray Pendlebury and I am the Junior Football Coordinator for the VPJAFC. This is my 4th year in this position, and I have been a part of the committee since 2018. I have taken on coaching roles for the past 7 years: 2014 – Under 8’s, 2015 – Under 8’s, 2016 – Under 9’s, 2017 – Roys Coordinator and Assistant Coach in Under 11’s, 2019 - Under 12’s Assistant Coach, 2020 - Under 14’s Community Coach. I have also played AFL since I was 6 years old and only retired a few seasons ago to take on this role.
My goals for the season ahead are to create not just football players but great kids in the community. Our aim as committee members, and as a club, is for the VPJAFC to become a premier junior football club in Queensland. A club with very high levels in coaching, support through our programs and our ABC concept across all levels: A – Attitude, B – Belief, C – Consistency.
Attitude – If you come with a positive attitude and a willing to learn, that attitude will enable you to develop skills and mateship in a team environment.
Belief – If you have belief you will eventually, with persistence conquer any task, at training or on game day.
Consistency – Through consistency and hard work at training, game days become easy showing skills and fitness.
Junior Football is about ongoing participation and development, improvement in skills and creating fun and friendships.
None of this can happen without the volunteer coaches and managers. So, if you are willing to put your hand up as a coach/manager, feel free to contact me. I know the pressure of becoming a coach, as I was thrown in the deep end in 2014 to coach. When you think about it, it is a couple of hours out of the week to make our kids great footy players and to build a community, full of great individuals in which you are already part of.
Season 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting year at VPJAFC and I cannot wait to see everyone out and enjoying this great game we love in the coming months.
Regards
Murray Pendlebury

Growing up and playing junior and senior football at Emerald (Vic), I moved to Queensland with my Family in 1996 and found myself walking through the front doors of the Sharks Sporting Club. I have now been involved with the Sharks for 23 years as a player, a parent of 3 children who play for the Sharks and as a junior coach of several different age group from under 8’s up to under 17’s.
After many great years of playing our great game of Aussie Rules, I love nothing more than giving back the knowledge and skills I have learnt and being coach to not just the under 17 girls but to all the Sharks juniors. It gives me great pleasure to see the next generation of Sharks juniors having fun and enjoying the game that I grew up loving.

Australian Rules football has been an integral part of my life from a very young age where I was privileged to witness firsthand the amazing opportunities, friendships & success that comes from participating in a team sport. Having played all my junior & senior football at Ainslie Football Club in Canberra it was here that my love and passion for the game grew as I was exposed to some great coaches in David Cloke, Peter Banfield, Jamie Shanahan, Ross Smith, Brent Heaver and Kevin ‘Cowboy’ Neale.
I now call the VPJAFC home where my son Cayden continues on his own football journey. I have been apart of the Sharks family for the past 6 years where I have coached both Junior and Youth teams while also playing a handful of games for the Bayside Bombers AFL Masters team.
Coaching to me is a wonderful & exciting opportunity to share my knowledge and love of AFL football with the next group of champions. Showing the players what can be achieved when you work together as a team whilst also instilling positive values such as sportsmanship, self-confidence, teamwork and leadership. I am looking forward to guiding the playing group as they continue to learn and develop their football knowledge & skill-sets in a fun, safe and positive environment that is offered at the VP Sharks JAFC.
I am also looking forward to completing my Level 2 Coaching certificate this season.
Bring on the 2021 season.
